Lifewide Education CIC Launch November 20th 2011

The Lifewide Education Community Interest Company was formally launched on a foggy November evening  at Dorking Rugby Football Club. The event, which was attended by nearly 50 people,  was also used to raise money for Oxfam's East African Appeal: a total of £450 was raised.  Lifewide Education's corporate sponsor Chalk Mountain Education & Media Services supported the event and musician Kai Jansen generously donated the proceeds of his latest EP - CD. You can view a clip of Kai playing at the event here  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Lw9yK8eCPo

The vision for the lifewide education social enterprise is embodied in Eduard Lindeman's words 'the whole of life is education therefore education can have no ending'.

The ambition of the social enterprise is to encourage and support 'movement' towards the widescale adoption of the concept of lifewide learning and education as the means to creating a more complete and personal education, that is more relevant to the society we live in and aspire to create.

This ambition will be realised through the following activities.

1 to establish, grow and support a community of people who care about the holistic forms of learning, personal development and education that the company promotes

2 to provide practical support for individuals, schools, colleges & universities that want to develop their own approaches to lifewide education

3 to raise awareness and champion lifewide learning and education as a means of improving the relevance of a more complete education to a modern society

4 to promote and support scholarship and research

5 to develop and implement, with the help of other organisations, a lifewide learning award

These five areas of activity will form the basis of our first strategic plan.
